The Varlian Gate
Christians refer to it as Abel, Muslims as Ibn’mael but commonly it holds the title of the Drift or the Trench. It is a sub dimension of permanent light, in obvious opposition to the void of space. Scientists have yet to explain it, but some have postured that it is the place where light is absorbed or created.
It can easily blind a person if seen directly. Ships pass into it by saturating Space ahead of them and pushing through using the Kan Light and molecular disruptors. As such all Trenchers have their prows scroched by the intense light and fire that errupts from entry and the cooling from exiting. The closer to a sun one gets, the stronger the current of light is that flows away. Many a savvy Captain has used the gravitational field and the Trench to catapult their ship and shave months off travel. (this is a similar process to that involving generating a wormhole).
Time in this pocket dimension flows in waves so that a ship must surf, as if the wave breaks over it any amount of time might pass. Rarely does it receed except for a few highly critisised accounts.
